Garden design & planning / Hertfordshire

A fresh
perspective.

Plenty of garden ideas, but no clear plan?

MLG helps you turn the “what ifs” into a more useful brief: how you want to live outside, what the space allows and which decisions need to come first.

How MLG can help

Find what matters to you.

Talk through what attracts you to those spaces and what you actually need at home. The goal is a coherent brief, shaped by the garden you have.

  • Separate the must-haves from the nice-to-haves
  • Think about use, atmosphere and upkeep
  • Connect the ideas to the actual site

Begin with what matters.

Some people arrive with a clear vision. Others know only that the garden is not working for them. Both are good places to begin.

01

Listen to the brief

Think about what you enjoy, what frustrates you and how you want to use the garden.

02

Understand the site

Consider light, access, levels, existing features and the relationship to your home.

03

Agree the design input

Discuss the layouts, drawings, material choices or specialist input your particular project needs.

The design scope and any associated fee should be agreed at the beginning. Ask what you will receive and how it relates to the quotation for the build.

A straightforward starting point

“We don’t know yet” is a useful starting point.

You may want ideas without feeling tied to a plan too soon. Tell us what is frustrating you about the current garden. The design input, deliverables and any fee should be clear before you decide.

From idea to garden

Know what
comes next.

A little clarity makes a big difference.
Here’s where the conversation begins.

01

Your ideas.

Tell us what you want to change, where the garden is and how you want to use it.

02

Your space.

Talk through access, levels, materials and the details that matter to your project.

03

A clear plan.

Agree the scope and understand the quotation before the work begins.

04

Life outside.

Bring the different elements together, with the finishing details considered.

Before you begin

Your
questions.

Do I need to know exactly what I want?

No. A few photographs, examples and a description of what does not work are useful starting points.

Are formal drawings always included?

No standard drawing package is assumed. The design deliverables and any fees are agreed for the project.

Can the existing garden be partly retained?

Tell us which plants, structures and areas you want to keep. Those preferences should be considered as part of the brief.
